The Augusta Fencers Club offers separate introductory classes in foil fencing for adults and children alike. Adult Intro (ages 14 and up) sessions meet for 50 minutes once a week for eight weeks for $165, followed immediately by an intermediate class for those who wish to continue. Youth Intro (ages 7-10) and Teen Intro (ages 10-13) are for ten weeks for $200.

In all classes, successful completion of the course leads to one of our intermediate fencing class. All competitive equipment is provided. See current Schedule.

Introductory Foil
Intermediate Youth Foil

The Intermediate Youth Class is the next step after successful completion of the Introductory class. The class consists of additional educational activities such as drills, exercises, and supervised bouting with comments. The class is on-going -- i.e., there is no starting or ending date.
Students are expected to begin assembling their own equipment. Some will use this class as an activity period to enjoy their association with fencing; some will use it as a steppingstone to the competition class. Students are encouraged to stay after class to 'free fence'. See current Schedule.

Adult Epee

Classes provide additional instruction, but the fine-tuning of fencing reflexes required for successful competition almost certainly requires private (one-on-one) instruction. And while the clubs classes are currently only for foil and epee fencers, private lessons are available in all three weapons. Lessons typically last 25 minutes and are individually
scheduled with Dr. Volkmann, Sarah Bender, or Collin McCoy.
Most students on either the Silver or Gold Plans (see Membership) typically take one weekly lesson. Lessons are included in these plans. Additional lessons are available for $35 for non-members or $25 for members.
